D'Urville Island and French Pass

Incredible Scenery at Your Doorstep

Of the several offshore islands around the Marlborough Sounds, D'Urville Island is the largest. D'Urville is separated from the mainland by a narrow, tidal channel called French Pass. The scenery on and around D'Urville is spectacular, ranging from colossal forest-clad mountains to serene bays and coves, to the rugged exposed coastline. Hike some tracks and take in scenic views of Stephens Island and the Cook Straight. Paddleboard or kayak the many bays and crystalline waters. Travel through the tidal waters of French Pass and Stephens Passage. Our trips to D'Urville Island are now available to mountain bikers to access the great selection of remote tracks, and you can now get access to these directly from Port Nelson.

Fish and Dive in the Best Spots

D'Urville Island is one of our main fishing grounds and we know where all the best fishing and diving spots are. Our fishing and diving trips can be full-day, overnight or for an extended period of time, staying onboard the Galileo or at a selection of other remote destinations within the Marlorough Sounds. We generally target blue cod, tarakihi, groper, kingfish, snapper, trevally, and a range of other fish, as well as free-diving for paua and scuba diving for crayfish and other underwater species.

Pricing: Starting from $5000/day for up to 8 people (includes fully-catered meals and linen).
